Connect to the Earth
A couple years ago I came across a report from the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
"It is well established, though not widely known, that the surface of the earth possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons as a consequence of a global atmospheric electron circuit. Wearing shoes with insulating soles and/or sleeping in beds that are isolated from the electrical ground plane of the earth have disconnected most people from the earth's electrical rhythms and free electrons.”
After having read this article I started to keep track of how much time I spent "grounded" every day and I was shocked that some days I didn't connect to the earth at all.
I tried to remember if that used to be different when I was a child, but I've always lived in big cities, My parents let me wear shoes when we went on a hike, the only time I was really in touch with the earth is when I was on the beach.
I started wondering if it was possible that not being grounded contributed to some of the ailments I experienced over the years. According to the research, spending more time grounded can be beneficial in:
- Reducing inflammation by defusing excess positive electrons
- Reducing chronic pain
- Improving Sleep
- Increasing Energy
- Promoting calmness by reducing stress hormones.
- Normalizing biological rhythms including circadian rhythm
- Improving blood pressure and blood flow
- Relieving muscle tension and headache
- Lessens menstrual and female hormone symptoms
- Can eliminate jet lag
- Protecting the body from EMFs
- Shortens recovery time from injury or athletic activity
- Helping support adrenal health
So, I bought an Earthing Mat which enabled me to sleep grounded and I started to spend as much time as I could with my bare feet on the earth.
But I wasn't in the possibility to walk around barefoot all day. Rough terrain, cities, work, & weather all play a role in how much time we can spend without shoes on.
So when I discovered Earthrunners I did a little happy dance (on bare feet of course). The team behind this brand creates minimalistic outdoor sandals that let you ground to the earth while wearing them.
"By syncing up with the earth’s circadian rhythm (24 hour cycle) by exposing our biology to the schumann resonance via earthing shoes, the body is able to calibrate to its natural electric state and slow down. These slower alpha brain waves help to improve quality of sleep and reduce recovery time by improving ones sleep economy."
It took me a couple hikes to get used to the sandals, mainly because my feet suddenly became super sensitive. But after a while I got used to it and now it feels so good to be aware of my feet and of the earth underneath them.
There are always options to improve the health of your feet and enjoy the benefits of being grounded. Sleep grounded on a Earthing Sheet or work grounded, especially behind a computer. Buy yourself a pair Earth Runners. Walk the dog without shoes on, go on a barefoot hike and dip your toes in a lake whenever you have the chance!
(From what I’ve heard and read, reactions to "earthing" can vary drastically. Some people will notice a difference immediately while others take a few days or weeks. Others won’t feel any changes or don't like sleeping grounded.)
