A spring cleansing ritual.
We are all part of mother nature, we all go through seasons. When the seasons of the year change we can tap into that energy and really embrace the changes that are happening within us as well as in nature.
Spring is a time of cleansing, rejuvenation, clearing out the old and making place for growth and renewal. It’s the most beautiful time to focus on self care. Love and care for the self is something that is so respected in Ayurveda and it’s why I love learning from this ancient medicinal system. Ayurveda recommends beautiful rituals in the form of daily practices that provide deep rejuvenation for your body, mind, and soul.
Here are some of my daily practices :
Oil pulling : is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil in your mouth to remove bacteria and promote oral hygiene. I use either coconut oil or sesame oil. Studies suggest that oil pulling can kill bacteria in the mouth and improve dental health.
Tongue scraping : is the practice of gently grazing the tongue with the help of a u-shaped tool or a scraper to remove the debris and bad bacteria, and clear out the surface of the tongue. This is a complementary practice to brushing, flossing, and mouthwash.
Dry brushing : promotes lymphatic cleansing and is a powerful way to support the natural process of detoxification in the body. This is traditionally done using raw silk or linen gloves, though many prefer to use a natural bristle body brush.
Breath work : also called Pranayama. breathing exercises that help restoring vitality and energy. Pranayama oxygenates the blood, strengthens metabolism, cleanses the lymphatic system, and clears the mind. I love using the Othership app for this.
Ghruta for skin : with its hydrating and nourishing properties, ghruta is also known as one of the most effective anti-aging remedies. I clean my face with it in the evening and apply a little bit as a moisturizer in the morning. I also use ghruta as a hairmask sometimes.
Ghruta rejuvenation : 1 teaspoon every morning and evening followed by some hot water. I also love to use Ghruta in my cooking and baking. Ghruta can also be added to coffee, tea, smoothies, or soup. My favorite way is adding a heaping tsp to my superfood elixirs.
Chyawanprash tonic : 1-2 teaspoons each morning in water. It enhances your respiratory, circulatory, and digestive systems to boost energy, stimulate immunity, sharpen clarity and focus, and increase the body, mind, and spirit connection for lightness of being.
I love using Pior Living’s Ghruta + Chyawanprash, their team is so knowledgeable and kind. I also highly recommend browsing through their blog and recipes, here are some of my favorite posts by them. You can use code nabalo for 20% off if you decide to add either of these products to your routine.
