January stove-top simmer pot.

Good smells bring me back to certain times and set the mood for me. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, The smells of homemade bread baking in the oven, The smell of wood burning in a fireplace, The smell of freshly washed sheets on my bed.

My house turns into a home when I burn incense, light my own homemade candles or when I diffuse my favorite essential oils. That’s also why I love making stovetop simmer pots in the winter months.

They are so incredibly easy to make, bring some extra moisture to the air and truly make your house smell so warm and cozy. You can use scraps when you just want good smells or you can use organic fresh fruit and beautiful herbs if you also want to drink it as tea. I prefer the last and here is my recipe.

January Simmer Pot

Fill a big pot with filtered or spring water. Add in a sliced pear, apple, orange, a handful of cranberries, a few cinnamon sticks, cloves, and a vanilla bean.

Optional : star anise, pepper corns, pine needles, ginger, rosemary, sage, lemon, and more.

If you don’t plan to drink it you can add even more, twigs and bark, tree buds, pine cones, if it smells good to you, add it in!

Now let it simmer, uncovered on your stove top. Your house will smell incredible and at the end of the day you have a beautiful and nutritious tea to enjoy.
